Mrs. Bert Kernen received a message informing her of the death of her brother. Glen W. Fravel which occurred at Mission Ridge, South Dakota, August 22nd, 1947. Glen was the youngest son of James and Martha Fravel and was born on a farm four miles northwest of Nodaway on August 27, 1877. With the exception of two years spent in the west he grew to manhood in Adams County.
He was married to Dora E. Wilkerson May 25, 1903. In August, 1904. they lost their little daughter Leona, aged 15 months. In April 1905. the wife and an infant son passed away. At this time they resided on his mother's farm two miles south of Nodaway. After losing his family he went to Ft. Pierre, South Dakota, where he worked as surveyor until his marriage to Mrs. Martha Larson in 1907. They homesteaded on the Orton Flat where he resided until his death. To this union five children were born and one son, adopted son, James Herbert and Ethel of Rapid City, South Dakota, Pearl and Nolan of Mission Ridge and Clifford at home.
Glen was preceded in death by his father in 1898 and his mother in 1896, brother, Thomas, two half sisters, Lela and Carrie. Left to mourn his death besides his family are a half brother, Andrew P. Swingle of Quincy, California, Hattie Peck of Delong, Illinois, Arthur Fravel of Lake City, Iowa, and Mattie Kernon of Nodaway.
Funeral services and burial were at Ft. Pierre on Monday, August 24th, just two days before his 70th birthday. His health failed three years ago when he suffered a heart attack which was followed by a stroke in March of this year. He will be greatly missed by all his relatives and friends.
