Mrs. Maxwell Dies Today
Widow of Former Local Postmaster Succumbs to Heart Ailment.
Mrs. Carrie E. Maxwell, widow of a former La Porte City postmaster, died at 6:50 a.m. Thursday at Presbyterian hospital. She had been suffering from heart trouble for some time.
She was born Carrie Emogene Webster, daughter of Henry and Mary Webster, in Benton county September 12, 1868, and married Benjamin L. Maxwell in 1886. The couple farmed near here until 1898, when they moved to La Porte City, where Mr. Maxwell was a salesman, and served at one time as postmaster. They moved to Waterloo in 1920, and Mr. Maxwell worked as a salesman for the Standard Manufacturing company of Cedar Falls. He died February 3, 1922. The Maxwell’s Waterloo home was at 1230 South street.
One son, Guy W. Maxwell, died at Glenville, Minn., June 15, 1937. His widow, Mary, survives.
Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. Adda Gingrich of Algona, and several nieces, among them Mrs. Ray Anton and Mrs. Emil Frank of La Porte City, Mrs. George Reynolds of Vinton, Zoe McDonald of St. Louis and Mrs. Arthur Kramer of Vancouver, Wash.
Funeral services will be at 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon at the Barnhart and Johannsen funeral home, with Rev. Oliver Yaggy, pastor of the Cedar Falls Evangelical church, officiating. Burial will be at West View cemetery.
