Selma Suek 9/22/1899 - 10/221966
Frances Suek 7/3/1915 - 5/18/1980

Herman Suek was raised and educated in Melrose, Minnesota. Little is known of his youth. He would say with a chuckle, that he only knew his oldest brother Joe when he was much older because he had left home before Herman was born. Also, whenever he would do something dumb or different, he would say, "Well what do you expect from the baby of the family?".
He married a young lady named Selma who lived on a farm near Snellman, Minnesota . They tried farming for some time, but Herman was not satisfied. They eventually moved to Gary, Indiana.
Herman had many jobs in the Chicago area and told of working as a chauffeur for several wealthy families there. He finally became a railroad man and retired from his profession in 1962. As a railroad man, he was known by his friends and co-workers as "Bill".
Upon his retirement, they moved to Big Toad Lake in Becker County Minnesota. He enlarged his summer home, they had there, and settled down for some serious fishing.
Selma and Herman never had any children. They did help raise a nephew of Selma's and were very proud of him. Herman dearly loved his nieces June, Mary Jo and Sandra Lorge. He told many times of stopping at Fairbault, Minnesota on his way to the lake and taking the girls with him on their vacation. He enjoyed young people and said so.
Selma passed away in October of 1965.
Herman married Fran Peterson, an old friend, in August of 1967. Fran and her late husband had run a lake resort and had one son. Herman and Fran remained living on the lake in her home until his death. He passed away on March 3, 1971 and was buried in the Pickeral Lake Cemetery in Minnesota. Fran passed away in January of 1981.
Herman's work took him far from his home. He never did forget his love for fishing or the land he loved and did return to his Minnesota.
