He was born August 31, 1918 in Gladwin, the son of Dennis and Ellen (Hutson) Shell. He married Arlene Karrer on May 23,1941 in Swartz Creek. He was a veteran of the U.S Army serving in World War II as a Quarter Master. He retired from the Genesee County Road Commission asa Superintendent on August 31, 1981 after 35 1/2 years of service. He was a life member of American Legion Buick Post #310 and servedas Commander for 25years. He was a life member of the 40/8 and F&AM Lodge #458. He currently served as the Treasurer and Bingo Chairman of the Flint Council of the American Legion and was Past President and Past Secretary. He was a volunteer fireman with Flint Township Fire Department for 25 years and had served on the Flint Township Board for 10 years.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Arlene of Flint; son, Gary L. Shell and wife, Linda of Lennon; two granddaughters, Jodi and husband, Dale Dorr of Davison, Traci Shell and fiancé, Saul Segura of Flint; two Great-grandchildren, Angela and Christopher; sister, Berniece Mulcahy of Swartz Creek; brother-in-law, Jack Karrer and wife, Katherine; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by: his parents; son, Charles Shell in 1943; brother, Kenneth; two sisters, Rhea and Irene.
