Cletus J. "Jiggs" McCabe, 86, of Dubuque, formerly of Bernard, Iowa, died at 2:55 a.m. Monday, May 16, 2011, at Ennoble Manor.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 19, at St. Joseph The Worker, with the Rev. Mark Ressler officiating. Burial will be in St. Martin's Cemetery, Cascade, Iowa. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m.
He was born on Jan. 31, 1925, in Cascade, Iowa, son of Jeremiah and Anna (Duschen) McCabe. He married Virginia Kearney on Nov. 14, 1944, at St. Martins, Cascade; she preceded him in death on March 9, 2011.
Cletus worked for Cy Schmitt in Bernard and later drove a fuel truck and supplied many homes and farms in the Cascade and Bernard area for 38 years
He was a former member of St. Patrick's (Garryowen) Church and Rosary Society and a member of the Knights of Columbus of Cascade.
Cletus was a generous and loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Surviving are a daughter, Sandra (Tom) Carr, of Dubuque; three grandchildren, Tracy (Doug) Dolliff, of Minneapolis, Lisa (Andy) Zelinskas, of St. Paul, Minn., and Todd (Michelle) Carr, of Dubuque; four great-grandchildren, Madison and Meghan Dolliff, Owen Carr, and Yonathan Zelinskas; and many nieces and nephews.
He also was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings and their spouses, Virgie and Joe Federspiel, Mary and Bill McPoland, Viola and Harvey Pitz, Joe McCabe, Don and Mary McCabe and LaVern and Lorraine McCabe.
