I don't know much about my father's childhood, except that he grew up in very small towns. Southern Baptist churches were prominent in his youth. Dad was the fourth of four sons, with three sisters born after him. (One sister did not survive past age two.) After graduating high school, Dad joined the Navy but did not finish flight school. He later enlisted in the Air Force, met and married Mom in early 1951 and made a career of the Air Force. He retired in 1973 and was hired at Kaiser Steel in Fontana in the masonry department.

His children are Glenda Lee Hamrick Monroe, Dwana Hamrick, Joseph Glenn Hamrick, and Jaye Lori Hamrick Northcote. His grandchildren include Lee Ann Hamrick-Dukauskas, Edward Marshall Monroe, Steven Terence Monroe, Morgan Jaye Northcote, and Cortney LeeAnn Hamrick White.
