Alice had known her husband since childhood; he was her grandmother's nephew, her father's cousin Captain Henry Thomas Lancaster. They were married 21 Dec 1886 in Brooklyn, NY when most of the families' ships were in port.
Alice was a descendant of Mayflower passengers Richard Warren and Stephen Hopkins and Maine revolutionary patriots James Nichols, Ichabod Austin, Jr., James Hall, Moses Worcester, Levi Fowler, Daniel Lancaster, and Jacob Clifford.
Alice Nickels Lancaster and her twin sister Priscilla Nickels Pattangall are buried together in Melrose Cemetery in Brockton, Massachusetts.
There is also a memorial to Alice at Church Hill Cemetery, Addison, Maine on the same stone with her parents, the memorial to her husband who was buried at sea, and their infant son who died aboard the ship 'Sachem' in Hong Kong Harbor and is buried at Happy Valley Cemetery in Hong Kong.
