Regarding his suffix:
Alexander Goodby Middleton 1775 – 1858 (FAG # 41590354)is the Senior, as he is the very first to bear the name.
Alexander Goodby Middleton 1826 – 1886 (FAG # 10540406)is his son and rightly should be designated Junior.
Now A.G. Sr's 7th son was Charles Lawson Middleton Sr., and he named one of his sons Alexander Goodby Middleton 1877 – 1951 (FAG # 41590411). This gentleman should rightly be referred with "III" as his suffix, since he is the third man in the family named Alexander Goodby Middleton. He is named after his grandfather, rather than his father.
And finally, AG III had a son and also named him Alexander Goodby Middleton 1909 – 1970 (FAG # 70023633). This gentleman's name bears the suffix IV since he is of course fourth in line.
