Alston W. Ackerman 48 died Sunday night in the Georgetown County Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 3:30 pm Tuesday in the Herbert Memorial Methodist Church. Burial will be in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens directed by Mayer Funeral Home.

Mr Ackerman was born in Cottageville April 15 1922 a son of Paul Walter Ackerman and Mrs Irene Wilkes Ackerman of Cottageville. He had lived in Georgetown for 25 years and was a millwright foreman at International Paper Co. he was a member of International's Pine Tree Club and of Winyah Lodge 40 AFM. He was a member of Herbert Memorial Methodist Church, the church choir the administrative board and chairman of the board and chairman of the pastor parish committee of the church.

Mr Ackerman was a veteran of World War II and the US Army Air Corps.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his widow Mrs Edith Maxey Ackerman of Georgetown a son Paul Wescoat Ackerman of Georgetown a daughter Miss Helen Elizabeth Ackerman of Georgetown; brothers Paul W. Ackerman Jr of Ashton and Donald L. Ackerman of DeRider La and a sister Mrs Elizabeth A Grimsley of Charleston Heights.
