The 93 year old Doctor Crayton Vaughn was the last living Real Son of the Confederacy. He received a certificate from the SCV organization stating that his father, Woody Vaughn, fought for the confederacy during the Civil War. Doctor Vaughn was a life-time member of the SCV.
Doctor Vaughn's father, Woody Vaughn, served with Company G of the 56th NC Infantry. He was seriously wounded in a battle, but was saved due to the efforts of a surgeon named Dr. Crayton. In gratitude, Woody Vaughn named his son after the doctor.
