My father, Walter D. Walter was born in Snyder, Texas. He was the 5th child of Julia Virgina Trott Walter and Fred Walter. He was named after his mother's favorite brother, Walter, hence the double Walter name. When my father was 6 years old the family moved to Taft, CA. My father worked to help support his family from the time he was nine years old. He would work at a local bakery before and after school. When my dad was working for the City of Taft, he met my mother who was a city clerk/stenographer. It was love at first sight. They dated for only about 7 months and eloped. My Aunt Rose, who raised my mother didn't approve of my father. My dad was the most loving, kind man on earth but my aunt, being elderly was afraid of "losing" my mom. After eloping, they moved to Santa Barbara, CA. World War II changed their lives and my dad was drafted into the US Army Air Corps. After returning from the war, my parents moved to Taft where they lived for the rest of their lives. My dad was loved by so many people in Taft. So many people would tell me that he was their best friend. My dad was a really good amateur photographer and took volumes of pictures of our family and friends. He also loved the old west, rock hunting, bottle collecting, visiting ghost towns, mines, airplanes, and the desert. He loved to go to Pioche, Nevada, my mother's birthplace. All the relatives knew he loved to collect antiques and they would collect the town's relics and have them ready for my dad's visit. My dad had an old house behind ours which he loaded with all types of antiques. It was a mini-museum of sorts. My dad worked for Pioneer Chevrolet from 1946 until his health declined in 1978. He then worked for Taft College part time until just before his death. My dad was a Christian man who truly loved to help everyone he met. You are loved and cherished by so many, Dad and you are missed every single day. Your loving daughter, Nancy
