Rev. Charles Emerson Austin's parents:

The family homesteaded in the 1880's near Bird City, Kansas, and later moved to Beatrice, Nebraska, where he graduated from High School in 1898.

He attended Nebraska Wesleyan Univ. at Lincoln and served as a circuit preacher in Arkansas. He married his high school sweetheart Iva Colcord on Christmas day December 25, 1902 at Coudersport, Pennyslvania. After a short time in Arkansas they moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, returning to classes at Nebraska Wesylan and Charles graduated in 1906. He recieved his divinity degree from Drew Univ. at Madison, New Jersey in 1909.

Their children were:

1.) Ethel May Austin; b. Jan. 1, 1906, Lincoln, NE.. m. Floyd Frank LeFever Sr. in 1930 at Cheyenne, WY. she d.Mar. 21, 1950 College Park, MD.

2.) Edith Mabel Austin; b. Aug. 22, 1907,Cartaret, NJ. she m. Glenn L. Johnson, Stapleton, NE., in 1935. lived in Omaha, NE.

3.) Esther Marie Austin; b. April 21, 1911, Cedar Bluffs, NE. m. Russell Hunter Goodrich in 1932 at Cairo, NE., they moved to Seattle, WA.

4.) Rachel Jane Austin; b. May 3, 1916, Baxter, TN., m. Howard Hollingsworth, Santa Fe, NM., in 1938, lived in Seatle, WA.

5.) Albert Colcord Austin; b. Sept. 8, 1917, Crab Orchard, NE. m. Glenice Rose Kemptar in 1947, Ericson, NE., resided at Auburn, NE.

6.) Hiram Merritt Austin; b. Sept. 21, 1920 Brownville, NE., m. Anita I. Oesterman in 1953, Lincoln, NE., and resided at Cedar Crest, NM.

He served over 50 years as a Methodist minister in Nebraska.

They lived at Brownville, where the family bought several acres of land north of Brownville, Also a house and several lots in Brownville.

He was a member of the Brownville Fruit growers and Brownville Farmers Union Association. The entire family was involved in fruit growing, which was hauled by the wagonload to be shipped by rail from Brownville.

Their 2 daughters Edith and Ethel graduated from Peru, NE., high school in 1926, the family then moved to western and central NE. The children and their mother returned to Brownville, NE. each summer to care for and harvest the fruit crop.

Their son Albert Austin later owned the property north of Brownville, NE.

Rev. Austin retired in June of 1947 and lived at Nebraska City. He died at Nebraska City and he and wife Iva are buried together at Walnut Grove Cemetery at Brownville, NE.
