Samuel was killed in an accident at the tunnel. He had went in at the end of the shift to check on things and found an old man still trying to get his rock pile shoveled up. G Paw Sam, took his shovel and told him to sit and rest a spell and let him shovel a while. He then handed him his hard hat. The family story goes that after only about 4 shovel fulls, a 4 lb rock about the size of a mans fist fell out of the top and hit him in the head and killed him. His wife Corsenia “Senie” Large Allen had him buried beside his father James, and his name put on the same tombstone.
