Alva married Winifred "Winnie" Edith Kressly in 1919. They had two children: Loa Ueldene 1920-2013 and Russell Lee 1928-2013. On the 1940 and 1950 Census they lived in Bennington, Ottawa, KS. Alva was a farmer. He died of injuries received in a tractor accident on the farm.
