A native of Buncombe County, he was the son of the late Blaine and Ganano Smith Netherton. He retired from Beacon Manufacturing Company after 43 years of service and was a member of the Quarter Century Club. He was past master, 50 year member and a life time member of Swannanoa Masonic Lodge No. 561 A.F. & A.M., who will present Masonic graveside services. The lodge will open at 1 p.m. Sunday. He was a member of Swannanoa First Baptist Church for 60 years.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Willie Mae Edmonds Netherton; a daughter, Patricia (Jackie) Collins and husband Harry of Fayetteville; grandsons Rick Collins and wife Debbie and Robert Collins and wife Sheri, all of Fayetteville; great-grandsons, Johnnie Collins and wife Teresa and Charlie Collins of Fayetteville. an aunt, Edna Justice of Hendersonville, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church of Swannanoa with Rev. Jerry Pereira officiating. Burial will be at Skyview Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Brigmans Funeral Service at Black Mountain.
