Bernice Steven Hancher, 57, of Columbus died at 5:15 p.m. May 19, 2011 at his residence with his family and friends by his side. Steve served his country in the United States Marines. He was a truck driver for over 20 years. He was a business man, owning several companies. He loved to fish. Steve held the state record for Redhorse Sucker fish for over 15 years. He was an avid poker player and loved to pan for gold. Steve loved to be with his family and friends.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation is planned and his remains will be scattered at a later date. Arrangements were entrusted to Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home.

Steve was born in Columbus, February 12, 1954 the son of Jack D. and Merle Ruth Hancher. He married Linda Roberts Wyatt on June 19, 1994. Survivors include his wife, Linda Hancher of Columbus; mother, Merle Collingsworth Hancher of Columbus; daughters, Mary (Ronnie) Baily of Columbus, Shannon (Tim) Creamer of Columbus, Miranda (Shane) Ison of Columbus and Holly Buchanan of Knightstown; a sister, Sarah Able of North Vernon; a brother, Otis (Karen) Wiley of Columbus; grandchildren, Destiny and Braxton Bailey, Brittiny and Trey Creamer, Sarah, Olivia and Jacalynn Ison, Kelab and Hailey Buchanan; a nephew, Drew (Megan) Able of Columbus; nieces, Morgan Able of North Vernon, Kirsten Nentrup of Columbus, Kim (Brad) Roose of Columbus, Madaline Able of Columbus, Karina Nentrup of Columbus, and Mackenzie and Makayla Spurlin, both of Columbus. Steve is preceded in death by his father; grandparents, Burnice and Lila Lee Hancher and Jack and Sarah Collingsworth.
