She died at 6:45 a.m. Monday, Oct. 17, 2005, at her residence after a long illness.
She was born Sept. 20, 1926, to the late Edmon Lowery and Viola Pyle Lowery in Gravette, Ark. She had attended school in Gravette and then moved to the Webb City area where she had lived most of her life. Melvina had worked many years for the Joplin Humane Society. She was an avid collector of wind chimes, clocks, angels and enjoyed birds.
She married Harold Watkins on Jan. 11, 1974, in Springfield, Mo. He preceded her in death on Nov. 24, 1986.
Survivors include one step-daughter, Genie Morris of Carterville; one brother, Ed Lowery of Lakeside, Mo.; two sisters, Francis Coonfield of Prescott, Ariz. and Lois Pickens of Joplin; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Bill and Melvina Creamer, nine brothers, two sisters and a step-daughter.
The Rev. J.C. Walker officiated the services. Pallbearers were Donnie Lowery, David Coonfield, Wesley Pickens, Jimmy Pickens, Curtis Pickens and Doug Eubanks. Honorary pallbearers were Adam Eubanks and Tim Tolson. The visitation was from noon Thursday until the service time. Arrangements were under the direction of Hedge-Lewis Funeral Home in Webb City.
