Violet Edna Rathe, 92, of rural Mattoon, passed from this life at 1:55 p.m. on Thursday, February 21st, 2008, at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham. Funeral services in tribute to her life will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 25th, at the Schilling Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Dona officiating. Burial will follow in the Dodge Grove Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held from Noon until 1:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Violet was born July 31, 1915, in Windsor, a daughter of Isaac and Myrtle E. (White) Justice. She married Henry H. Rathe on February 14, 1939. He passed away July 3, 1997. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Pearl T. Mullenix; three brothers, George E. Justice, John Justice, and Isaac Justice; one son, Phillip Henry Rathe; and one daughter, Lynn Marie McGinnis. Survivors include her brother, Leo Justice of Lincoln; her granddaughter, Mrs. Robert (Laura) Ingle of Mattoon; two great-granddaughters, Alicia Ingle and Charity Ingle, both of Mattoon; five nephews, Darrel Mullenix and wife Judy of Mt. Vernon, Dennis Mullenix and wife Josie of Peoria, Robert Rathe and wife Harriet of Mt. Vernon, Douglas Rathe and wife Linda of Springfield, Texas, Allan Rathe and wife Judy of Greenup; one niece, Marge Henderson of Fairfield, California; and numerous great-nieces and nephews. Mrs. Rathe was the sole remaining member of her family who owned and operated Rathe Nursery and Garden Shop. She was also a member of Central Community Church in Mattoon.
