John Winslow was born after 1759 in East Haddam, Middlesex County, Connecticut Colony. He was the son of Capt. Job Winslow, a shipwright and ship captain, and his 1st wife, Temperance Hayden. John died young in East Haddam and was buried there in what is now called River View Cemetery.

The birth and death year for John is missing because his burial info, among other Winslow graves, records only that he was the son of Capt. and Mrs. Temperance, without dates.

John's father, Capt. Job Winslow, had a son of the same name with his 2nd wife, Mary Rogers, in 1784. The second John, who married Nancy Newton and died in 1853, was an executor and beneficiary in the 1804 will, which was proven in 1810, of their father, Job Winslow, who moved to Canaan, Columbia County, New York.
