PANA — Ruth N. (Mrs. J.R.) Karnes, 77, of Pana, formerly of Beecher City, died at 5:36 p.m. Saturday (July 21, 1990) in St. Vincent Memorial Hospital, Taylorville.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Nazarene Church, Effingham. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in Lockart & Sons Funeral Home, Shelbyville. Burial will be in Beecher City Cemetery. Memorials: Nazarene Church, Pana, or Diabetes Foundation.
Mrs. Karnes was born July 17, 1913 in Indiana, daughter of Lewis and Edith Ponsler Starkey. She was a member of the Nazarene Church, Pana. She married J. R. Karnes on Nov. 4, 1930 in Bloomington. He died March 31, 1980.
Surviving are her daughters, Mrs. Lawrence (Freida) Yeakley of Decatur; Mrs. Kenneth L. (Lorena) Smith of Monticello; sons, Russell and Stanley, both of Monticello; Charles of Effingham; Joe of Fremont, Calif.; Ivan of St. Elmo; Elbert and Owen, both of Beecher City; Donald of Shelbyville; Irvin and Dan, both of Pana; brothers, Curtis, Loren, Keith and Floyd Starkey, all of Hudson; Kenneth Starkey of Bloomington; 38 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great- great-grandchild.
Two brothers and one sister preceded her in death.
