"Miss Nettie Ella Mitchell." Caption on the back of the photo says it was taken in Oakland, CA, which is surprising to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We had no corroborating evidence that her family had been to California in the year this photo was taken [assuming an age in the range of 3, 4? Photo from my great- Aunt Marge [Poquette] Milhahn's collection. I borrowed the photos, made negatives from them, and prints from those. Nancy Poquette

From the eulogy of Marian Meyers ____, May 12, 2004 for Marge Poquette Milhahn:
"When she was young, her father left, and Marguerite and her 5 brothers and sisters were raised by their Mom. NETTIE raised the children by taking in boarders, doing laundry, cooking and cleaning for others. In the evenings, she baked pies and cakes for the restaurant nearby, and sewed clothes for her children."

Los Angeles Times, an April 1959 issue:
"Mrs. Nettie Poquette. Funeral services for Mrs. Nettie G. Poquette, 82, will be conducted at 11:30 am today by Forest Lawn Mortuary in the Wee Kirk o' the Heather, with interment following in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Mrs. Poquette who was born in Linden, WI, lived in Los Angeles for the past 23 years, and made her home at 3764 Edenhurst Ave. She died Monday, leaving two sons, Ray, Los Angeles, and John, Tujunga; 3 daughters, Mrs. Mary McGrath, Los Angeles; Mrs. Marguerite Milhahn, Dolton IL; and Mrs. Leora Smetana, Chicago, and 2 sisters."
