H. L. Browne, Prominent
Southwest Railroad Man,
Dies In Jersey City
Whitesboro, Dec. 31.—Herbert L.
Browne, former employee of the New
York Central, and for the past 25
years a prominent railroad man In
Southwest, died In Jersey City
yesterday after an illness of seven
weeks. The body will be brought to
the home of his sister, Mrs. John
Marsh, of this village.
Mr. Browne was born in Morrisville
on February 8, 1881 and moved
to Utica when a youth. There he
worked for several years in the New
York Central freight house. Later
he went to St. Louis, where he
served in tbe freight department of
the Big Four.
He had seen service with many
railroad lines throughout the South-
west.
Mr. Browne is survived by one
daughter, Ruth Ann, now attending
Mary Baldwin School at Staunton,
Va; three brothers, Duane, New
Hartford; Lynn, Utica. and Charles,
Whitesboro; three sisters, Mrs.
McCoy and Mrs. Marsh, and Miss
Grace Browne.
