George, the son of George D. Davis Sr. and Ada B. Williams of Gary IN, enlisted in the US Marine Corps on December 28 1967 in Chicago IL. He arrived in Vietnam on January 13, 1969, and was assigned to Company M, 3d Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st MARDIV (Rein) FMF.
During Operation OKLAHOMA HILLS at a LZ (Landing Zone) near Bana Hay Xa Yeng in Hieu Duc District Quang Nam after a resupply mission Pvt Williams who had been unloading supplies was accidentally killed. On lift-off the helicopters rear rotor blade dipped striking Pvt Williams who had accidentally backed into the blade.
