Hoy W. Childers

Salem - Hoy W. Childers, 89, of Route 2, Weston, formerly of the Salem area, died Monday, March 15, 1999, at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital, Weston, following an extended illness.

He was born July 2, 1909, near Jarvisville, a son of the late Daniel and Annie Brown Childers.

His first wife, Hazel Brohard Childers, preceded him in death in 1970. His second wife, Opal Johnson Childers, survives.

Also surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Edison L. and Shila Childers, Clarksburg, and Lynn and Linda Childers, Buchannon; one stepson, the Rev. Jimmy and Melba Johnson, Davis; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Don (Mary) Gay, Weston; for grandchildren, Kenneth Childers, Lowell Childers, Beth Ann Childers and Dianna Sheridan; three great-grandchildren Ryan Childers, Andrew Childers and Brittani Childers and three step grandchildren.

Mr. Childers was a member of the Meadow Valley United Methodist Church and attended the Bendale United Methodist Church of Weston.

He was a retired glass worker with the White-Bailey Glass Company and was a farmer.

His body will be taken to the Bendale United Methodist Church in Weston from 6-8 pm today for viewing. It will be returned to Salem to the Greathouse Funeral Home, Salem Chapel, for viewing from 2-4 and 7-9 pm Thursday. The funeral service will be held at 2 pm Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Jeffrey Zickefoose conducting the service. Interment will be in the Jarvisville Baptist Cemetery.
