Sarah was the first wife of Malachi C. Caudill, born in

"During the Spring of 1864 a group of Confederate soldiers came through Little Valley and left a sick soldier with the family of Malachi C. Caudill who may have been away from home with his Confederate military unit. Sampson's wife Sarah and daughter Sarah Matilda cared for the soldier - Frank Trail. Frank had smallpox and he and the Malachi's wife Sarah died in May 1864. Both are buried in the Osborne cemetery."
