Family Tribute
Mary Louise Zevely Fraser (1928-2011)
Mary Louise Zevely Fraser, descendent of Crook County pioneers, died at her home at Lone Oak Retirement Center, on Sunday May 15, 2011, of congestive heart failure. A funeral will be held at Juniper Haven Cemetery in Prineville, OR at 10:00 am Wednesday, May 25th. Internment will follow at the Prineville Memorial Cemetery.
Mary Fraser was born in the Dalles, Oregon, May 10th, 1928 to Alexander and Grace (May) Zevely. She attended schools in several Oregon towns, graduating from Sherman High School in Moro in 1952. She worked as a waitress for several years, and then as an operator for the telephone company. In 1963, she quit this job to dedicate herself to her family, and lived in Tumalo for fifteen years and spent the last seven years of her life as a resident of Eugene, Oregon. She was a member of the Tumalo Community Church. After returning to the employment scene, she worked for Telecom, Girl Friday and Central Messaging. Her most recent employment was with Deschutes County Historical Museum.
Mary was a member of the Deschutes County Historical Society, a charter member of the Central Oregon Audubon Society, and an active member of the First Christian Church of Bend.
Survivors includes a daughter, Dawn Luyendyk of Napa, California; a son, Paul Fraser of Texas; a son, Oliver Fraser of Eugene, Oregon; nine grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren. She also leaves two sisters: Grace Busse of Gresham and Jean Anderson of Crooked River Ranch, as well as numerous cherished friends and family throughout the region.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the First Christian Church on Newport in Bend or the Deschutes County Historical Museum, PO Box 5252, Bend, OR, 97708.
