Lewis W. Owen, 88, of Lafayette, died at 9:05 a.m. Saturday, May 21, 2011, at St. Elizabeth Central. He had been residing at Digby House the past three years.

Born June 19, 1922, near Linden, he was the son of the late Paul A. and Anna (Ann) M. Petrie Owen. Mr. Owen was a graduate of Linden High School, attended Purdue University, and was a graduate of Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, Ill.

He married Hildegard Davies on July 14, 1953, at Hillsboro, Ill. She died Feb. 9, 2005.

Mr. Owen was a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force, retiring in 1967, and later worked for IBM as a customer service engineer for 20 years. While in the military, he was able to visit many religious shrines and holy places in Europe, and also met Pope Pius XII while in Rome. Mr. Owen was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Lafayette.

Surviving are a son, George R. Owen (wife: Janice) of Plano, Texas; two daughters, Stephanie Yantis (husband: Stephen) of Lafayette and Theresa McClure (husband: Paul) of Carrollton, Va.; and a brother, Lynn Owen of Chicago, Ill.

Also surviving is a grandson, Andrew S. Yantis of Lafayette. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Shirley Owen and Geraldine Erwin. Friends may call at HAHN-GROEBER FUNERAL HOME, 1104 Columbia St., Lafayette, from the Rosary at 4:45 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Ann's Catholic Church. Fr. Dominic Young officiating. Entombment at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens Mausoleum, with American Legion Military Rites. If friends desire, memorials may be made to the Matthew 25 Share & Care Soup Kitchen. Lewis was a man of deep faith and strong convictions, with a special devotion to the Blessed Mother and the Rosary
