Nuzhet came to the United States in 1957. After his graduation from the University of Portland, he started to work at DLI as a Turkish teacher in 1966. He was retired after 32 years of service as a Turkish teacher and the head of the Turkish Department in 1998. He is survived by his wife, Nilgul Gencoglu of Pacific Grove, and his sister, Esin Gencoglu of Ankara, Turkey.
