Frances Thompson, 94, of Central City, formerly of Aurora, died Monday, May 23, 2011. Frances was born on Oct. 21, 1916, in Esbon, Kan., to William F. and Mary E. (Atkins) Rogers.
Frances was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Richard H. Thompson.
Survivors are: daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Lanny Petit of Inland; sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Judy Thompson of North Platte and Randall and Sheri Thompson of Martell; grandchildren, Todd and Angelisa Petit, Brett and Kacey Petit, Kirk and Dana Petit, Megan and Bryan Jelken, Melissa and Derek Poloncic, Troy and Erica Thompson and Travis and Sarah Thompson; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Frances grew up in Esbon and received her education there. On April 10, 1933, Frances was united in marriage to Richard H. Thompson in Smith Center, Kan. They lived on a farm near Esbon until 1953, when they moved near Aurora to farm and raise livestock. They moved to their home near Clarks in 1975 and they retired from farming in 1978. After retirement, they continued to raise longhorn and black angus cattle and horses. Richard died on May 2, 2004. Frances continued living at home until moving to Aurora and then to Central City Care Center in 2010.
Frances' greatest joy came from being a mother and spending time with her family and she was a great cook. Frances enjoyed corresponding with family and friends, she read the newspaper thoroughly each day, she enjoyed playing cards and games, dancing and country music.
Frances was also preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Thelma Bell, Alma Kennedy, Elizabeth Keen and Alice Lewis; and brothers, Rex and Arden Rogers.
