Occupation: Proprietor of a flouring mill in Springfield, Illinois.

William P. Thayer, 82, lifelong resident of Sangamon county and member of one of is pioneer families, died at 5:40 o'clock yesterday afternoon at St. John's hospital, following an illness of ten weeks. Mr. Thayer was a son of Mr. and Mrs. William P. Thayer and was the last surviving son. The elder Thayer came to Sangamon county from Pennsylvania in 1828 and was a prominent farmer and landowner in the vicinity of Chatham for many years. The son operated a farm near Chatham for many years and then came to Springfield, more than thirty years ago. He had resided at South Seventh street for the last thirty years.

Decedent conducted a grocery store for several years and then embarked in the wholesale produce business with George Parkinson, under the firm name of Parkinson & Thayer, with a store on the north side of Monroe street, between Fourth and Fifth streets.

Mr. Thayer was one of the first members of the Modern Woodmen of America in Springfield and was clerk of a local camp at the time of his death. He was a pioneer member of First Presbyterian church and remembered seeing Abraham Lincoln on several occasions.

Decedent is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary E. Thayer; one son, Harry P. Thayer, Chicago; one sister, Mrs. Lee Hickox, Springfield. IL State Journal, Springfield, IL, 5-11-1928.
