Leslie Elliott was a farmer before working at the Refinery for many years, starting first as a boilermaker's helper in 1911, and going on the old crude stills as a fireman in 1916. He was a stillman in the Refining division at the time of his death.

The Elliott Family owned much of the land where Elliott Road is located, which at that time was southeast of Baton Rouge and was considered part of the community called 'Hope Villa.'
