Service: 2 p.m. today at the Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Homes in Biloxi.
BILOXI --- Charles F. Matthews, 82, died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, in Ocean Springs.
Mr. Matthews was a native of Gretna, La., and a lifelong resident of the coast. He retired after serving 20 years in the U.S. Coast Guard and was retired after a second career in civil service at Keesler Air Force Base in the food service. He was a lifetime member of Biloxi Elks #606, Magnolia F&AM Lodge #120 and Knights Templar.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alethia "Cricket" Matthews; a granddaughter, Paige Elizabeth Taylor; and his parents, Charles and Eunice Matthews.
Survivors include a daughter, Alice Matthews Taylor and her husband, Charles, of Biloxi; a son, Charles "Chuck" Matthews and his wife, Emily, of Biloxi; a sister, Frances Ellen McWilliams of Charlotte, N.C.; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at 1 p.m. today at the Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Homes in Biloxi. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Biloxi National Cemetery with U. S. Coast Guard honors and Masonic graveside rites.
