John W. Hollandsworth, 87, Cottonwood

John William Hollandsworth, 87, passed away Friday, Aug. 10, 2007, at St. Mary's Hospital in Cottonwood.

John was born Nov. 6, 1919, in his grandparents' home about six miles south of Cottonwood. He was the son of Alva O. and Minnie E. (Jungert) Hollandsworth.

He went to grade school in a little school house on the Salmon River called the Bugslope School. John attended high school at Cottonwood. After graduating he drove the mail stage for Dr. Williams for about two years, while also helping his dad on the ranch at Graves Creek.

In 1942, John joined the U.S. Navy. During World War II he served on the destroyer the USS Stringham, as a first class petty officer. John served his country for three years.

While still in the Navy he met and married Dorothy Poppin in San Francisco. After he was discharged, they moved back to the ranch at Graves Creek. John and Dorothy had three children, Bill, Steve and Mary Jane. They were divorced.

John married Regina Forsmann Aug. 4, 1965. He acquired nine more children. John and Regina ranched at Graves Creek until 1982, when they moved to Cottonwood. They had been married for 42 years.

Preceding John in death were his parents; a daughter, Mary Jane; a brother, Oren; sisters, Gracy Raymond and Doris Jane Hickman; and a grandson, Jason Hollandsworth.

Surviving John are his wife, Regina; sons, Bill and wife Kathy Hollandsworth; Steve Hollandsworth; Marvin and wife Jackie Forsmann, Bob and wife Patty Forsmann, Wayne and wife Dar Forsmann, Ed and wife Rose Forsmann, Jake and wife Marlene Forsmann, and Ted and wife Abby Forsmann; daughters, Marlene and husband Fred Bieren, Pam and husband Jerry Keeler, and Micki and husband Alan Holthaus; brother, Lew and wife Polly Hollandsworth; sister-in-law, Grace Hollandsworth; grandsons, Buck, Patrick and Shay Hollandsworth; great-grandaughters, Courtney, Ciarra and Cabrina Hollandsworth. John is also survived by 37 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Cottonwood Community Church with Pastor Eric Williams officiating. Burial will follow at the Cottonwood Community Cemetery.

John will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends!
