OBITUARY
Mrs Phoebe Ann Bires was born in Brownville, New York on Oct 10, 1834, and died on August 5, 1912, at her home . Mrs Bires was a resident of New Lisbon and vicinity for over half a century. She lived at Hartford, Wisconsin in the early 1840s, uniting in marriage at that place, with Joseph Wallace Bires on Dec. 7, 1850. Four years after their marriage , the venerable couple came to Juneau County and settled on a farm in what is known now as the town of Fountain. Mrs Bires has since lived in this neighborhood. She was the mother of eleven children, nine of whom are left with the husband, Fifty one grandchildren and fseven great grandchildren. Two daughters preceded her death. Funeral services were held at her home today, conducted by the Rev. W.P. Burrows of the Methodist church. Burial was in the New Lisbon Cemetery. Relatives from abroad who attended the obsequies were Mr and Mrs William Bires from Tomah, Charles Alton of Hartford, Mr and Mrs M Alton from Spring Valley, and Mr and Mrs Shattuck of Neilsville.
