Ima Jean Eddy passed away on November 23, 2012, surrounded by loving family members. Born on July 1, 1919 in Portland, Texas to John Irving and Beulah Bradley Giles, Ima Jean was one of their 11 daughters. Ima Jean was salutatorian of her high school class in Sinton, Texas, was a member of the National Honor Society, and also won state music awards for the French horn. Ima Jean married her beloved husband, Richard Henry Eddy, on January 25, 1943 at City Hall in New York City, while he was serving as a Lieutenant J.G. in the United States Navy during WWII. Following Richard's military service, Richard and Ima Jean moved to Kingsville, Texas, where he began his 36-year career as a chemist with Humble Oil & Refining Company and Ima Jean continued her lifelong role as a homemaker and mother of their two daughters, Sandra Jean and Sharon Kay. Involvement in all of their daughter's school activities, plus a love of sports, particularly girls' and womens' basketball, and traveling throughout the U.S. were highlights of Richard and Ima Jean's almost 62-year marriage. Ima Jean was a steadfast and faithful Christian and was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, twin sister, Ura Dean Ware, and 8 other sisters. This beloved mother, grandmother and friend is survived by her daughters, Sandra Messier and son-in-law, Bob of San Antonio; and Kay Haverlah of San Antonio; grandchildren, Scott Messier and wife Ann; Heather (Messier) Garcia and husband Carlos; Brent Haverlah and wife Amy, Chris Haverlah; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Jo Danford of Portland, TX; and numerous other loving family members and friends. Ima Jean was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren, and reveled in each and every one of their accomplishments. Graveside services are planned for Monday, November 26 at the Jourdanton Cemetery. Arrangements under the direction of Hurley Funeral Home, 118 W. Oaklawn, Pleasanton, 78064.
