Welman Joseph "Dippy" Babin


"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7. A native of Brignac and a resident of Gonzales, he passed away at his home surrounded by his family after a long battle with lung cancer, Thursday, May 12, 2011, at the age of 84. He loved playing music, gardening, especially riding his lawnmower. He is survived by his wife, Ruby Roddy Babin; daughter and son-in-law, Jacquelyn and Irvin Gautreau; sons and daughters-in-law, Dale Sr. and Noreen Babin, Welman Joseph "Pete" Babin Jr., Sidney J. and Annie Babin; step-daughter, Joycelyn Fontenot; step-sons, Teddy Roddy and Glynn Roddy; sisters, Elgie Mae Braud, Lillie Mae Babin and Maryann LoBell; 20 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by first wife, Willie Pearl Leader Babin; son, Ronald Joseph Babin; daughter, Donna Marie Babin; parents, Sidney and Adouiska Parent Babin; brothers, Shelton Babin, Anton Babin and Felman Babin; and sisters, Hazel Broussard and Mable Broussard. Pallbearers will be Jody Gautreau, Jordy Gautreau, Brett Sanchez, Teddy Roddy, Glynn Roddy, Allen Babin and Josh Babin. Honorary pallbearer is Tristan Babin. There was a visitation at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales, on Sunday, May 15, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation continued at St. Mark Catholic Church, Gonzales, on Monday from 9 a.m. until a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Rubin Reynolds, celebrant. Interment will be in Hope Haven Garden of Memory Cemetery, Gonzales.
