James is the son of Henry Adam and Norma Andrist of Definace, Ohio.
He was from a family of 5 siblings. He served in the U S Army and became a police officer in Austin, Texas, serving for over 30 years. His hobby was car racing.
He is survived by a wife, Mary and 2 children all of Austin, Texas

James Harry Andrist, 64, of Del Valle, passed away on Wednesday, December 3, 2008.
Jim was born on June 15, 1944 in Defiance, Ohio, to parents Henry Andrist and Norma Viebauch Andrist. He grew up in Defiance and later served in the United States Navy.
Jim served 30 years with the Austin, Texas police department until his retirement as a Senior Sergeant. "Big Red" loved patrolling the streets and finished his tour of duty on the assignment he so dearly loved. He earned the respect of officers and people alike by his honesty and always being tough but fair.
He will be deeply missed.
Jim is survived by his loving wife Maurine Andrist of Del Valle; daughter, Tammy Fennell and husband Mark of Cedar Park; son, Christopher Andrist and wife Elsy of Del Valle; grandchildren, Luke, Harley and Loren Andrist and Tiffany Roberts of Del Valle; brother, John Andrist and wife Sandie of Defiance, Ohio, and sister Joanne West and husband Al of Defiance, Ohio.
The family will receive visitors from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Sunday at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home in Austin. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park in Austin. Dr. Richard Pena will officiate and the Austin Police Department will render Honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
