Frederick George Sherlock Morley was born in Farnborough, England on the first of January 1901. He was educated at Reading University and Baillou College, Oxford, where he was a champion sprinter. George, as he was known, joined the Bahamas Education Department "in the spirit of adventure" and was appointed schoolteacher at Tarpum Bay in 1926. From Tarpum Bay, he went to Hope Town, Abaco, as schoolteacher and Commissioner. While there he married Margaret Louise Saunders, youngest daughter of Reverend Richardson Saunders, the longest serving rector of St. Matthew's Church. In 1933, the couple settled in Nassau and George joined Pan American World Airways. He was known as "Mr. Pan Am" and served its interests in the Caribbean enthusiastically for three decades. Mr. Morley was an avid hunter, an actor in local stage productions, and a founder-member of the East Nassau Rotary Club. George and Madge were the parents of two sons, Peter Saunders Morley and John Richardson Morley. He died on January 12, 1968 at the age of 67.
