Uncle Marion served 23 years in the US Army Infantry.
Went in the Army as a private, made Staff Sergeant within a few years, was offered a battlefield commission but turned it down. He fought the duration of WW2 and was involved in the liberation of the Infamous, Dachau Concentration Camp. Uncle Marion was stationed at Dachau until he was reassigned to Ft. Benning, GA where he attended Infantry Officer Candidate School. After graduation, he was appointed a Second Lieutenant. He also fought in the Korean war. He would never talk about the war except for one time after my persistent questions, he said: Criss, it was a terrible, terrible time with all the killing. Then he said that Korea was the worse, that he’d never been so miserabel in all his life. He retired as a Major then served another 28 years as Chief of Intelligence and Security at Ft Rucker, Al. Uncle Marion was a wonderful man, a soldiers' soldier, whom I dearly loved.
