Byron Keyser was mustered into service on August 2nd 1861. He was placed into Company B of the Twenty Third Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry "Birney's Zouaves" and sent off to Washington D.C. to camp to be trained for war. While there he was accidently killed on February 13th 1862.Though he never seen battle, this young man of 17 years and seven months offered his life to defend the country he loved.
