Lillie May Rothrock was the eldest of two known children of William Jacob Rothrock (1852-1927) and Matilda Lamb (or James?) (1859-???), who married 13 May 1874 at Effingham County, Illinois. After Matilda died, William remarried to the widow Sarah Elizabeth Auldridge Chandler (1852-1919) on 27 Sep 1883 at Piatt County, Illinois and had an additional five children.
Lillie first married to William Merick (1873-???) at an unknown date and unknown place. Lillie and William were the parents of one known child, namely:
1. Claude Raymond Merick Butler (1895-1973)
After William died, Lillie remarried to the widower Philetus (went by "Fleet"?) Butler (1843-1912) on 28 Jun 1896 at an unknown location. Lillie and Philetus were the parents of six known children, namely:
2. Herman Dewey Butler (1898-1975)
3. Gladys M. Butler Wallisa (1900-1984)
4. baby girl Butler (1901-1901)
5. Leslie W. Butler (1902-1981)
6. Guy Robert Butler (1904-1946)
7. Harley Earl Butler (1911-1971)
Claude Raymond Merick, child of Lillie and William Merick, took the surname Butler. After Philetus died, Lillie remarried to Alvin Albert O. Wakefield (1862-1936) in c1923, but had no known additional children with Alvin. After Alvin died, Lillie remarried to Jesse E. Vest (1863-1940) in c1938 but had no known additional children with Jesse.

Mrs. Lillie Vest, 79, formerly of 708 South Webster street, died at 4:10 Saturday in the home of Mrs. Nellie Halladay, Hammond, where she had been living three months.
Mrs. Vest had been ill for 18 months.
She was born April 6, 1876 in Wabash, Indiana, the daughter of William and Matilda Rothrock. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Philetus Butler. She was married in 1938 to Jesse Vest. He died in 1940.
Surviving are four sons, Claude R. Butler, Lesley Butler and Harley Butler, all of Decatur, Herman of East St.Louis; a daughter, Mrs. Gladys Wallisa of Decatur; a brother, Carl Rothrock of Indianapolis, Ind.
