Mary E. H. S. Thomas

EVANSTON, Wyo -- Mary Ellen Heiner Stewart Thomas, 81, died here Monday after a lengthy illness.

She was born Dec. 18, 1807, in Richville, Morgan County, a daughter of George and Mary Henderson Heiner. She married George Stewart in October 1884. They were among the first homesteaders on the Lyman Bench under the Bigelow Canal, settling there in 1892. Following Mr. Stewart's death Dec. 22, 1897, she went to California and married Bert Thomas.

Fifteen years ago she returned to Lyman to live. She was active in organizations of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Salnts talented and was a talented musician.

Five sons and daughters survive: George Stewart, Salt Lake City: Mrs. Lena Pearce. Los Angeles; Mrs. Mary Ellen Rollins, Cheyenne; Mrs. Lavina Van Vieet, Garfield, and Josiah Stewart, Willard, Utah; seven brothers and sisters: Mrs. Eliza Durrant, Rirle. Ida.; Mrs. Nettie Guild, Lyman; John and Horace Heiner, Morgan; Mrs. Ida Berlin, Ogden and the former Viola and Julin Heiner, present addresses unknown; 29 grandchildren and 55 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Morgan Cemetery.

Friend may call at the Bills Mortuary in Evanston until Thursday morning and Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the Morgan chapel.
