Folk and Bluegrass Musician. She began her career after being discovered at a talent contest in Chicago, Illinois, by local Radio DJ John Lair. Along with Evelyn "Daisy" Lange, Esther "Violet" Koehler and her sister, Rosie Ledford, they made up the all-girl group, 'The Coon Creek Girls.' They played all their own instruments, including the fiddle and banjo, and played authentic mountain music instead of sentimemtal and cowboy songs. One of the first all-girl groups to play string-instruments, they recorded songs such as, "Sowing On The Mountain" and "Banjo Pickin' Girl."
