He was married to Mary Jane Miller June 20, 1877, at Oskaloosa, Ia. Lived on a farm near Avery for three years, moved to Page county, which was their home till 1916, living one year at Eddyville, coming to Clarinda in 1917. To this union were born twelve children, Ralph Edwin died in infancy; Mrs J.T. Stirk, Aransas Pass, Tx; Wilbur C. , Gravity; Mrs N.C. Barnes, Guthrie, Okla; Mrs H.R. Kelley, Earlhom; Mrs Arley Stoner, Fontanelle; John E., Corning; Wayne of Villisca; Mrs F.D. Hughes, Mrs F.E. Handorf, Mrs J.C. Smith and Floyd of Clarinda. He is also survived by his wife and 26 grandchildren, one sister, Mrs Mary E. Moss, Fairfield, Ia; two half-brothers, Will Burt of Washington, and Fred Burt, of Wisconsin, and other relatives. One sister and five brothers who preceded him in death. Charles was baptised by a Seceder minister near Avery, Iowa, while young.
Funeral services were held at the home on Garfield street, Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev E.B. Osborn, Baptist minister of New Market. Services at the grave were conducted by Clarinda I.O.O.F. of which he has been a member for years. The music was furnished by Pleasant Ridge neighbors and friends.
