Graveside services for Mavin Albert Donica, age 89, of Gretna, Nebraska and formerly of Atascosa and Brownwood, Texas will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 19, 2011 at Blake Cemetery with Pastor Brian Hall officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Netherton Funeral Home & Cremations. Mr. Donica passed away peacefully at his home with his family at his bedside on Tuesday, February 15, 2011.

Mavin was born, December 10, 1921 in Rishing Star, the son of the late William and Eula (Coe) Donica. He served in the US Army during World War II fromJanuary 6, 1943 to January 4, 1946, where he earned the American Theater Campaign Medal, EAME Campaign Medal with four Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He went on to work as a civil servant upon leaving the Army, where he eventually retired. However, he continued to work various jobs up until the age of 80, when he retired completely due to health issues. Mavin was a Mason in good standing with the Atascosa No. 379 Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Donica of Huntingdonshire, England; son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Caroline Donica of Gretna, Nebraska, son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Kim Donica of Atascosa, Texas, daughter, Nancy Tefteller of Lavernia, Texas, son-in-law, Chuck Schmitt of Mesquite, Texas and eight grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by daughter, Diane Schmitt; brother, Alfred Donica and sisters, Allie and Malley Donica.
