A Lifelong Friend ~
SS #: 241-05-2705, NC
Vocation: Sewing, Spinner, Cotton Mill
Note: My parents were life long friends of Doyle and Jessie Riley. Sometimes, we would visit their home on Sundays after church. Doyle and Jessie lived in a small quaint house in Mt Holly. It was fun as a child to visit there and to play in the yard. Sister Riley, as we called her, was gregarious and always enjoyed her company. She loved to talk and share her news and views. She spoke enthusiastically in a rather rigorous and loud manner. Mom enjoyed talking with her about sewing, as both worked in textiles. One would usually find Jessie sewing, knitting and/or making a dress for someone. In her back yard, there was a green rose bush that predated the Civil War period, which had been passed down through the family. She was proud of it and would remind us kids not to trample on it or break it. She loved her family & her church and always received others in a positive and cheerful spirit. As long as I live, I will remember the precious times we enjoyed with Jessie and Doyle.
