Dr. Frank Benedict, Quincy native, dies

Frank D. Benedict, M.D., 90, 125 Wesley Road, Ocean City, N.J., Quincy native and Philadelphia physician for more than 50 years, died at 8 a.m. Feb 28, 1980, in the Ocean Point Nursing Home, Somers Point, N.J. He had been in failing health for a number of years and was admitted to the nursing home Monday.

Born in Quincy Township Dec. 23, 1889, Dr. Benedict was the son of the late George D. and Ellen M. Duffield Benedict.

A graduate of Quincy High School, he took his pre-medical studies at Perkiomen Academy, graduating in 1909. He received his degree in medicine from the Temple University School of Medicine, Philadelphia in 1914 and served his internship at the Temple University Hospital. He served in the Medical Corps with the 82nd Division in Europe during World War I and following his discharge returned to Philadelphia where he served on the staff of the Temple University Hospital for 51 years until his retirement in 1967.

He also served as instructor at the Temple University School of Medicine for a number of years.

He married the former Margaret Severson in November 1922 and they made their home in Ocean City since his retirement.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ocean City and the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and American Medical Associations.

In addition to his widow he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Janet Sebens, Annandale, Va; a granddaughter, three sisters; Mrs. Anna B. Geesaman, a resident of the Quincy United Methodist Home, Miss Ada Benedict and Mrs. Eva Heefner, both of R.R.1, Waynesboro and two brothers; J. Glenn Benedict, R.R. 8, and Orville Benedict, Quincy.
