Longtime Sonora resident Clifford Harold "Cliff" Dunbar died Oct. 21 at his home. He was 83.
Mr. Dunbar was born in Chuckey, Tenn., and lived in Sonora for 70 years. He retired from working in a lumber mill.
Mr. Dunbar loved to garden, spend time with his family and watch his children and grandchildren play sports. Mr. Dunbar was a fire chief for the Standard Volunteer Fire Department and a lifetime member of the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) Union.
Mr. Dunbar was preceded in death by his father, Sanford Dunbar, in 1974; his mother, Lilian Crum, in 1929; and brothers Robert Dunbar, in 1954 and Kenneth Dunbar, in 1999.
Mr. Dunbar is survived by his wife of 60 years, Geraldine Laverne Dunbar, of Sonora; children and their spouses Clifford Alan Dunbar and Carol Dunbar, of Seneca, Mo., Robert Lee Dunbar and Sharon Dunbar, of Jamestown, Monica Charlotte Manuel and Rich Manuel, of Sonora, and Rebecca Jean Gardner and Scott Gardner, of Sonora; grandchildren Lori, Ben, Nathan, Christy, Big Nick, Little Nick, Steve, Tessi, Joey, Brent, Vanessa, Preston, Haley, Alicia, Brennen, Brad, Brayden and James; 21 great-grandchildren; siblings Charles Dunbar, of Rapid City, S.D., Lulabell Bowers, of Elizabeth, Tenn., Jane Jones, of Chuckey, Tenn., and Wilbert Dunbar, of Johnson City, Tenn.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Sierra Bible Church.
Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
