Lessie Ruth Eller of Fieldbrook was born in the mountains of Western North Carolina on August 10, 1910, and died February 11, 2004, in Eureka, CA.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, George Carl Eller and by her son, William Ralph Eller. Lessie was the mother of five children, Clara E. Wagle of Fieldbrook, G.G. 'Bud' Eller of Crescent City (both born in Wilkes County, NC), William Ralph Eller, deceased, Clyde Eller of Crescent City and Donald Lee Eller of McKinleyville.
Lessie's husband, Carl, left North Carolina on Ground Hog Day 1930 for California, to establish a new home for his family. Later, the same year, Lessie, with her two small children in tow, traveled from Wilkesboro, North Carolina, to Eureka, via rail. After a short stay in Eureka, the family moved to the beautiful valley of Fieldbrook, which would become their home for the next 74 years, and the home in which their 5 children would be raised.
Lessie had seven brothers and four sisters. All but one sister is deceased. Her sister Natella resides in Idaho. Lessie had five children, nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Lessie loved to can from the wonderful garden that Carl grew. She loved camping, sewing, visiting with her friends and neighbors, reading, growing her roses, music and would sing all the time.
Plans for a memorial service will be announced.
