The Rev. Roy H. Hunter, 81, Altoona, went to be with the Lord Thursday evening at his home.
He was born in Julian, son of the late Robert R. and Pearl Vesta (Schmittle) Hunter.
Surviving are his wife, Joanne L. (Schultz) Hunter; four sons: Mark and wife, Linda, of Baton Rouge, La., Timothy of Mancos, Colo., Daniel and wife, LeeAnn, of Biloxi, Miss., and the Rev. Nathan and wife, Shari, of Chagrin Falls, Ohio; five grandchildren: Christian, Tiffany and Derek of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, and Danielle and Denton of Biloxi, Miss.; and a special niece, Linda Wenrich of Altoona.
He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters and a son, Joel.
The Rev. Hunter graduated from Altoona High School in 1947 and Philadelphia Biblical University in 1951. He was ordained into the ministry at Calvary Baptist Church in 1953. He served at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Corsica and First Baptist Church in Lock Haven and for 30 years at First Baptist Church in DuBois.
The Rev. Hunter was the founder of WDBA-FM radio in DuBois and ministered through radio for many years. He taught at Altoona Bible Institute, mentored many young men in the ministry, was an interim pastor for several churches in the area and served at Calvary Baptist Church in Altoona.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, May 23, 2011, at Calvary Baptist Church, 810 Ruskin Drive, Altoona, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Larry Weaver. All services both days will be held at the church. Private interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church or Altoona Bible Institute.
